Update (29/02/2024)
Added NTP version in case you do not have Blackpool Branches.
Disabled them from appearing in formation designer for now, since they don't really work properly with it.
A quick mod based on a barrier vehicle/translator coach that adds some variants of the Mk1 BG coach with various couplers.
There are three versions of the mod:
TranslatorCoaches_Dual_PBO.zip - Uses the dual braked Mk1 BG coach from Blackpool Branches. Requirements - PBO, SEHS, ECML, LIRR
TranslatorCoaches_Dual_NTP.zip - Uses the dual braked Mk1 BG coach from Northern Trans-Pennine, for if you don't have Blackpool Branches. Requirements - NTP, GWE, SEHS, ECML, LIRR
TranslatorCoaches.zip - Uses the vacuum braked Mk1 BG coach from Training Centre, for if you don't have Northern Trans-Pennine or Blackpool Branches. Requirements - GWE, SEHS, ECML, LIRR
They should appear in the free roam menu under 'Translator Coach (UK)'. The front coupler remains the original buckeye/hook coupler, but the back coupler has been swapped. There are 6 variants:
Mk1 (Tightlock):
- Uses original coupler model
- Can couple to Class 313, 314, 465, modded version of Class 323
Mk1 (BSI):
- BPO version uses the coupler model from Class 142 (Blackpool Branches), NTP and vacuum braked version uses coupler model from Class 166 (Great Western Express)
- Can couple to Class 142, Class 158, modded version of Class 166
Mk1 (Dellner):
- Uses the coupler model from Class 375 (Southeastern Highspeed)
- Can couple to Class 375, 377, 387, 700, ROG 37
Mk1 (Dellner - Class 385):
- Uses the coupler model from Class 375 (Southeastern Highspeed)
- Can couple to Class 385
Mk1 (Scharfenberg):
- Uses the coupler model from Class 801 (East Coast Main Line)
- Can couple to Class 395, 801, most German EMU's, ÖBB 4024, modded version of TGV
Mk1 (WABCO N-Type):
- Uses the coupler model from M7 (Long Island Rail Road)
- Can couple to M3, M3A, M7, M7A
Notes:
- The Mk1 BG coach hasn't been remodelled or retextured, I have only swapped the back coupler
- I haven't added any scenarios, timetables or formations, it is currently only for free roam mode
- You need to enter the cab and release the brakes on any train being dragged, I don't know how to get it to work automatically.
- If you are using the vacuum braked version, you may also need to use the four vacuum release chains on the bottom sides of the coach to release the coach brakes.
- I have included the uncooked unreal files for use with the TSW4 editor in case you want to look at/modify them, they are not required if you just want to use the mod
- German version using a Habbiins wagon here
Requirements
If you don't have the required DLC's the coupler model will either be invisible or the mod won't work at all, I'm not sure which.
Requirements
NTP and vacuum braked version uses BSI coupler model from Class 166
All versions use WABCO N-Type coupler model from M7
NTP version uses Mk1BG coach
All versions use Dellner coupler model from Class 375
PBO version uses Mk1BG coach, and BSI coupler model from Class 142
All versions use Scharfenberg coupler model from Class 801
Installation Instructions

Cool mod! You should make a version with german and american wagons too. (so that they are more realistic for the region)
Does the original tightlock work?
the only issue im having with this is because the coach isnt dual braked i cant use air brakes to release the brakes on the unit i couple to the translator coach, if it was possible to use a dual braked coach like the ones in BR Blue and Grey on NTP and Blackpool Branches then it would be much easier
Could you use Habbins for the German translator coach as they are very similar to the Habfis Railadventure uses?
Thanks a lot! I love your Work :)
Made a Habbiins version here https://www.trainsimcommunity.com/mods/c3-train-sim-world/c110-pc-editor-creations/i4176-barrier-vehicletranslator-coach-german, also working on a dual braked Mk1 coach and a USA version, although not sure what I will use for the USA version yet
Hello, is it possible that you can swap the buffers and couplings from the Mark 1s onto the Great Western Mark 3s, so it is possible to haul them about with, say, a Class 47 without needing a Mark 1 to translate the buckeye to hooks & chains on the loco
Example Image is a GWR Mark 3 BSO, probably could use the TGS as stand-in for that.
I second this! and be nice to get Mk3s in the free roam spawner, pain having to use god mode. Wish we could have the mk3s in livery editor too :(
My editor has stopped working at the moment, but if/when I get it working again I can do that. I'm not sure I know how to add a coupler that can swap between buckeye and hook though, so I might have to make a variant that only has hook coupler
@mjkcp cannot wait for you to do this!!!
Nearly finished I’ve got it working with switchable buckeyes/hooks from the ttc mk1 and with buffers (buffers will be visual only for time being till I’ve figured out how to make them “solid”
Is there a way of adding tail lamps to the coaches in game?
ive got a mod in testing now, a Mk3 TFD with a screw link and hook at the closed gangway end. brake pipes all connect and work properly. im struggling with buffers, the buffers on the rail vehicles in game are animated parts of the skeletal mesh rather than individual components like couplings that can be swapped out. i did manage to put some very crude ones on as a test and they worked in game visually but no matter what collisions i put on them locos just go right through them.
for the time veing i will put together a mod pack with both ends of the mk3 set with screw links with a generous coupling threshold so you dont need to get perfect coupling seperation without buffers as a guide.
