Built by Bombardier between 2010 and 2012, the ALP-45DP is a dual-mode locomotive that is derived from Bombardier’s ALP-46 and TRAXX range of locomotives. 35 of such locomotives were built for NJ TRANSIT® for operation over the North Jersey Coastal route to Bay Head. Quite regularly, the locomotives are employed on the Shore Express service which connects New York City with the Jersey Shore. Delivering some 4,200HP while operating under the twin V12 turbocharged Caterpillar 3512HD diesel motors with a starting tractive effort of 71,000lbs, the locomotive can achieve 100mph. While operating under overhead AC catenary, the locomotive develops 5,360HP which can propel the train to 125mph.
